The Directorate of Technical Educational (DTE), Maharashtra is responsible for conducting the Common Entrance Test for MBA/MMS programmes offered by colleges through out the state of Maharashtra. The written exam generally takes place in the month of February. In the year 2006, it was conducted on 26th February. In 2007, it took place on 25th February and in the year 2008, CET was conducted all over India on the 17th February. All the days of the examination were Sundays. The details about the information brochures, filling up of the on line application forms, the colleges associated with the exam and the eligibility criteria etc are put up on the site www.dte.org.in and the details also appear in leading newspapers as well as magazines in the months of December or January every year.

 The CET exam is conducted in three stages namely the Written Test, the Group Discussions and the Personal Interview. Now, it is important to note that the written test is not used for elimination or screening purpose. Any one who sits for the Written Test is eligible for the Personal interview as well as the Group Discussions. The cumulative scores of all the three are used to determine the admissions. Work experience and past academic record is also given weight age to.

 Some of the top colleges associated with CET are Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, Sydenham Institute of Management studies and research, K.J. Somaiya institute of Management studies and research and the Prin L N Welingkar Institute of Management development and research.
